After an early breakfast, we will depart to Merzouga through the Mid-Atlas mountains. Let’s make a stop in the cedar forest of Azrou, home to Barbary Macaques. Don’t miss the opportunity to hand feed the monkeys as they playfully tease you with their antics. Pay attention to the nomadic shepherds on the scenic journey between the Middle and High Atlas mountain ranges.

You will have time to enjoy lunch in Midelt, known for its handicraft co-op and its importance as a mining center. If you notice many apple trees, it is their most abundant crop. We then continue to the scenic Ziz River through a series of fortified villages, Errachidia and Rissani. Rissani has the largest Berber market of the region. People from the surrounding areas come here to purchase their necessities. We end our journey today in Merzouga where you will check in to your hotel/riad. Enjoy your dinner and an overnight stay.

MERZOUGA DESERT 4X4 EXCURSION •
ALLURE OF THE DESERT CAMEL TREK

Today we will discover the unmatched landscape of Merzouga and the marvel that is the Erg Chebbi Dunes. We will visit Khamlia Village, famous for its Gnaoua music which is a mix of classical Islamic and African Traditional. Get ready for a thrilling adventure of the Erg Chebbi Dunes by 4X4. This off-roading trek offers you many incomparable views of these mysterious Dunes as you witness the nomad’s way of life. Relax and enjoy a traditional Berber pizza for lunch as we prepare for an incredible afternoon.

You will enjoy the much anticipated camel trek into the pink sands of Morocco’s highest dunes. Enjoy your time wandering the dunes before the sun sets in a spectacular show of colors. A traditional Moroccan dinner is served, followed by a traditional music show of Berber instruments around a campfire. Enjoy this desert night atmosphere as you take a look up at the sky. The Milky Way will be waiting for you in full glory. Count the shooting stars as you gaze in wonder before a peaceful night in a private nomadic tent. This truly is an oasis in the middle of the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi.

• DADES GORGE

Be sure to wake up early in the morning to watch what well may be the most striking sunrise of your life. Savor the morning breakfast before departing this incredible camp. Don’t fail to appreciate the unique beauty of these breathtaking dunes of Erg Chebbi as the changing light of day plays upon the sand.

We will traverse the valley of Tinjdad resplendent with ancient kasbahs and brilliant palm groves to arrive at Todra Gorges. We will revel in the splendor of the Todra Gorges, the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco. Have your camera ready for this spectacular site. Savor your lunch in a local restaurant before continuing to your accommodations in the Dades Gorge.

DADES GORGES • KALAAT M’GOUNA • SKOURA • OUARZAZATE

After breakfast we will take a walk in the gorge with its multi-colored walls reaching from 200-500 meters high. Next we head off the beaten path to see the nomad caves carved into the mountainside. We will continue our trek to Kalaat M’Gouna which is widely known for its Festival des Roses. If you are lucky enough to be here in May, you may witness the grandeur of this festival. Don’t pass the opportunity to purchase the rosewater for which the city is named.

The Skoura Oasis, sprinkled with palm tree groves, is among Morocco’s most beautiful. The Kasbah Amridil is a fortress from the 17th century. Standing the test of time, it provides many insights into the mysterious traditions of the past. We will spend this night in Ouarzazate in preparation for the next adventure.

OUARZAZATE • AIT BENHADDOU • MARRAKECH

After breakfast we visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, originally the residence of the Pasha of Marrakech and a symbol of the feudal period of the lords of Atlas. Another treat for the day is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou. This famous kasbah is a striking example of the architecture of southern Morocco and was used as a backdrop for more than twenty films.

Following this historic visit we will visit the traditional High Atlas Berber village of Telouet and the Kasbah el Glaoui. This kasbah was the seat of power for the El Glaoui family built in the 18th and 19th centuries. We will have lunch in a local restaurant before descending the incredible Tizi-n’Tichka Pass over the High Atlas Mountains. Stops along the way are provided to enjoy the breathtaking, picturesque scenery. The splendor of these majestic mountains is indeed a sight to behold. Your stay in local hotel/riad in Marrakech will be lovely.

MARRAKECH • ESSAOUIRA • MARRAKECH

Today as we head to Essaouira, you will delight in a sight only to be seen here in Morocco. Ask about the “goat trees” and witness the goats as they climb the Argon trees looking for food. Discover the marvelous Argon oil when you visit a Women’s Co-Operative manufacturing this famous product.

We will visit the beach and famous fishing port of Essaouria, formally known by its old Portuguese name, Mogador. This citadel with a prestigious past has been occupied since prehistoric times and was famous for its Tyrian factory which supplied Rome with its legendary purple dye. Protected as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, its medina is a hub for local artists and is known for the day and night life.

We will visit the port, the Scala and the medina surrounded by ancient city walls. You will return to Marrakech in the evening to spend your final night in this alluring country.
